CoffeeNotes is a Dorset-based sustainable stationery brand with a simple but compelling idea: turn waste into something worth writing in. Every notebook in their range is made using recycled coffee cup paper as a core material, blended with other reclaimed or repurposed waste streams to create covers and pages that are genuinely circular, recyclable in your household waste or compostable at end of life.
The Range
CoffeeNotes notebooks come in three distinct formats, each suited to different writing habits.
The Stitched Notebooks are the heart of the range, sold in packs of three (one plain, one lined, one dotted) and available in Medio (A5) or Piccolo (A6) sizes. Each collection takes its name and colour palette from a different waste material blended into the cover: Beer (Ale, Pils, Bock), Tailors (Navy Wool, Camel Tweed, Denim), Splash (Deep Blue, Cobalt Blue, Marine Blue), Tutti Frutti (Lime Green, Lilac, Orange), and Fruit (Cherry, Grape, Kiwi). Saddle-stitched with rounded corners, they're lightweight, practical, and genuinely distinctive on a desk.
The Mini Shot Notebooks are the pocket-sized A7 version - a set of three plain paper notebooks ideal for quick notes, lists, and reminders. Available in the same themed collections as the Stitched range (Beer, Tailors, Splash, Tutti Frutti, Pure, Cafe, Fruit), they're entirely UK-made from materials to production.
The A5 Layflat Notebooks are CoffeeNotes' premium tier. Thread-sewn with an exposed spine, they open completely flat on any page - a feature writers, journalers, and artists will appreciate immediately. The covers are made from more unusual materials: Seaweed (a byproduct of seaweed processing, with natural fibres visible in the cover) and Apricot (fast-growing plant fibres with natural colour). Inside, 160 pages of recycled coffee cup paper. These are the notebooks you keep.
Why CoffeeNotes Works with Fountain Pens
CoffeeNotes paper is smooth enough for everyday fountain pen use, particularly with wetter inks. The plain paper format across the Shot range and the Layflat notebooks makes them especially well-suited to journalling, sketching, and freeform writing where ruled lines get in the way. For more on pairing paper with your pen, see our Fountain Pen Paper Guide and our roundup of Fountain Pen Friendly Notebooks.
Sustainability
Every CoffeeNotes notebook is fully recyclable in household waste or compostable. The brand's ethos is built around closing loops, coffee cups, beer waste, textile offcuts, fruit processing waste, and seaweed byproducts all find a second life in their products. For fountain pen users already drawn to the long-term economics of a refillable pen, CoffeeNotes is a natural companion. Read more about our own approach in Pure Pens and the Environment.
