When we launched our own range of fountain pen inks in February 2018, we wanted to create something that felt genuinely ours. Not just a rebranded ink from an existing manufacturer, but a range with a real identity, a real story, and a real connection to where we are from. Here is the story of how the Pure Pens Ink range came to be.
Where It All Started
Pure Pens has been selling fountain pens and inks online since 2004, and over those years we developed a deep appreciation for what makes a great ink. We stocked inks from some of the finest makers in the world, from the historic Diamine in Liverpool to the artisan KWZ in Poland and the legendary J. Herbin in France.
But we always felt there was room for something closer to home. Something that reflected where we are, what we love about this part of the world, and the colours that surround us every day in South Wales.
Bottled in South Wales
The Pure Pens Ink range is bottled right here in South Wales, at our base in Newport. We are proud of that. In a world where so much is manufactured far away and shipped across continents, there is something satisfying about an ink that begins and ends its journey within a few miles of the people who sell it and the customers who use it.
Inspired by the British Isles
The colour palette for the Pure Pens Ink range is themed around the colours of the British Isles. The landscapes, coastlines, skies, and seasons of Britain and Ireland are extraordinarily varied and often breathtaking, and we wanted our inks to reflect that.
From the deep slate greys of the Welsh mountains to the vivid greens of the valleys, the steel blues of the Bristol Channel, and the warm ambers of an autumn evening over the Brecon Beacons, the colours of our range are drawn from the world around us. Each ink is named to evoke a place, a season, or a feeling that anyone who has spent time in these islands will recognise.
Quality You Can Trust
We set out to create inks that we would be happy to use in our own pens every day. That means good flow, consistent colour, safe formulations that will not damage your pen, and easy cleaning. We use our inks in a wide range of pens ourselves, from entry-level to high-end, and we are confident they perform well across the board.
The range is exclusively available at Pure Pens. You will not find these inks anywhere else, which makes them a genuinely unique gift for any fountain pen enthusiast.
A Range That Keeps Growing
We launched with a small initial range in 2018 and have continued to add new colours since then. Each new addition goes through our own testing process before it makes it into the range. We are particular about colour accuracy, flow, and behaviour on paper, and we will not add a colour to the range unless we are genuinely happy with it.
