Pelikan's story originates in 1838 when chemist Carl Hornemann founded a small company to produce ink and water colours. Based out of Hanover, Germany, the Pelikan logo itself is borne from his family's coat of arms and is now synonymous with one of the oldest brands in Germany.

Pelikan are famed for their 1929 invention of the differentiated piston filling mechanism. In the following decades, the company established its international reputation for manufacturing high-quality, plush fountain pens.

Representing "Upgrade your handwriting", the Up looks to incorporate higher quality materials into the original Pelikano model while still remaining affordable. It features an aluminium cap and body and is adorned with a metal clip.

It retains the classic Pelikano soft grip zone and ink view window on the barrel. Pelikano Up is inscribed along the length of the barrel and the cap end features the modern 'One Chick' company logo. Like the original generation, the Up comes with un-plated, iridium tipped stainless-steel nibs and only takes cartridges and converters for use with bottled ink.
